Jeroen is born in 1965 in Rotterdam and lived during his childhood in Rotterdam, Leeuwarden, Amersfoort and Sneek.

Jeroen studied Econometrics at Erasmus University in Rotterdam and graduated in 1987. He continued working on his PhD "Empirical Studies in Japanese Retailing" and received YKK Scholarship Scheme to do research from April 1988 till March 1989 at the Faculty of Business Administration of Aoyama Gakuin University in Tokyo. He lived in the Youseiryo, the student dormitory in Jinguumae, one of the most fashionable areas in Tokyo during the time of the bubble. He returned from October 1990 till April 1991 on the SAP scholarship of the Japan German Centre Berlin. He defended his thesis and received his PhD on 7 January 1993.

In 1992, Jeroen started working at ING at the Economic Research Department of the insurance part of ING and moved in 1994 to the Actuarial Department of ING Group, becoming responsible for the Embedded Value project.

July 1997, Jeroen was send to ING Life Japan in Tokyo and became responsible for the Finance and Actuarial areas. He lived in Townhouse Azabudai in Azabudai near Tokyo tower. From March 2001 till August 2001, he was also responsible for the Finance area of Aetne Heiwa Life.

June 2001, Jeroen went to Hong Kong as Chief Finance Officer of ING Asia Pacific, having the Finance oversight over the insurance and asset management entities in Japan, Korea, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Thailand, Malaysia, India, Singapore, Indonesia, Australia and New Zealand. He lived in Southside Villas on Shouson Hill Road a relatively new appartment complex which has been demolished in 2007. the last year from May 2007 till March 2008 he lived in Queen's Garden on Old Peak Road.

In March 2008, Jeroen returned to Netherlands and became Chief Insurance Risk Officer of ING Group and in 2010 Deputy Chief Risk Office of ING Insurance.

From March 2008 till October 2012, Jeroen was member of the CRO Forum.

Jeroen is a active amateur underwater photographer, visiting several places in Indonesia: Wakatobi, Raja Ampat, Lembeh, Bali, Manado and East Kalimantan as well as Cebu in the Philipines and Bonaire and Curacao in the Carribean.

He has sung in many Church Choirs: St Francis Chapel Centre in Tokyo, the Barbara Church in Rotterdam, the church in Bovenkerk Amstelveen, St Anne's church in Stanley Hong Kong, Hong Kong Cathedral, St Augustin in Amsterdam and currently in the Good Shephard Church in Amsterdam.
